Maps are largely of Suffern, the Town of Ramapo, and Rockland County and include individual lots in Suffern, 1885-1928; school districts prior to centralization in 1941; blueprint maps of various sections of Suffern, ca. 1950; Mansfield Park, a housing development in Suffern, 1924; proposed boundaries for the village of Suffern, 1896; the first map of Suffern as a village, 1898, showing buildings and businesses; and Sanborn insurance maps for Suffern, 1902-1962. Other items include a map of the Hudson River, ca. 1944; a reproduction done by Frederick Washburn in 1905 of Robert Erskine's Revolutionary War maps for the Rockland County area, 1778-1779; and an atlas for Rockland County, 1876.

The Sanborn Map Company was founded in 1867 with headquarters in New York City. Its purpose was to produce maps that would show "at a glance the character of the fire insurance risks of all buildings" in a give community. Since these maps had a very specialized use, "there were usually fewer than twenty orders for a single map sheet".
